Why is Ward committed to raising money and awareness for HackCancer charities?
Ward experienced first-hand the importance of having financial support when a family member is sick. When Ward was 10, his father had a bout with brain surgery to remove a tumor that was putting pressure on his brain and affecting his hearing and balance. Following the surgery, his father slipped into a coma for 5 long months. His dad woke up unable to speak or move and began a 13-year battle to regain his speech, mobility, and, most importantly, fatherhood. The financial support he had available, thanks to an amazing health care plan, allowed Ward and his younger brother to have a father for 13 more years. This experience inspires Ward to fundraise so that others can afford to fight their illnesses and spend more time with the ones they love.
Oh HEY! He’s also participating in the Mr. Marina competition - to help raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma society. 100% of proceeds from his auction will go to the “CharityWard” campaign and HackCancer is donating matching funds with proceeds from the Mad Men event as well.
